First, it’s designed to be your one-stop-shop for video editing. But just in a nutshell, here is what Resolve has going for it. This isn’t a blog post about why Davinci Resolve is better than Premiere Pro. When I’m using Premiere, on the other hand, there is a lot that I end up missing about Resolve, to the point that I’m usually back in Resolve for the next project. I love the compatibility between Photoshop, Premiere, Illustrator, After Effects, In Design, etc. When I use Davinci Resolve, there is only one thing I miss about Premiere Pro: the whole Creative Cloud environment. But then I launched Davinci Resolve and realized that it’s actually as good as Premiere Pro, if not better! (And yes, in my opinion it is much better.)
In my mind, moving from Premiere Pro to a free video editor was a big blow to my ego. I had just cancelled my $50/month subscription to Creative Cloud and I was feeling defeated. The first time I downloaded Davinci Resolve, I felt a little ashamed. It’s the precious needle in the oversaturated digital haystack. This is the rare drop of magic that doesn’t come with a price. Most good things in life aren’t free, but Davinci Resolve really is. So what’s the catch? Where are the strings? After using Davinci Resolve on a near daily basis for over three years, I can tell you with a reasonable amount of confidence that there are none.
Even though it is technically freemium, since there are certain advanced features that can only be used with the paid version, the program is fully functional and offers an incredibly robust video editing suite without ever asking for a penny. You can do as much as you want with the program with very few limitations. Maybe only a few basic features are unlocked with the rest hidden behind a pay wall.īut to my amazement, and to the amazement of just about everyone that downloads the program, Davinci Resolve is absolutely free with no strings attached. Maybe there’s a watermark on the exported video. I’ll deal with both of these doubts one at a time. And two, if it is free, it must not be robust enough to meet my video editing needs. So when I first heard that Davinci Resolve was a free video editing program, my mind jumped to two places.
This concept describes a software or an app that offers just enough free features to lead people into a purchase. “Get started for free!” “30 Day Free Trial!” “Risk-Free 30 Day Guarantee.” But we have been conditioned to take the word “free” with a grain of salt. In today’s digital world, we are constantly bombarded with the word “free.” Go to just about any software website and you’ll see the word “free” somewhere on the page. Why is it free? What’s in it for them? And what’s the difference between the free version and the paid version? Those are the questions we’re going to be answering in today’s blog post. Again, if you’re like me, this raises a lot of questions.
While there is a paid version (Davinci Resolve Studio), the free program is perfectly capable to do just about anything that you’d want it to. Davinci Resolve is a free and feature-rich video editor. Well as it turns out, it’s just good enough to be true. And if you’re anything like me, the first time you heard that this was a totally free program, you called BS. Davinci Resolve is one of the most capable NLE video editors on the market.
